How to Fix God of War Error (Opens and Closes by Itself) 😺
Hello super awesome people! 👋 Yosh here. If God of War on PC tries to start—black screen for a moment—and then just closes without actually launching, you're in the right place. It gets everyone excited like it's about to start… and then it disappears. Don't worry; we'll fix it. Nando gives it two paws up. 😼
Here's the first solution that works for a lot of people. You've got this! 👍
Solution 1: Set the Game to High Performance (Dedicated GPU)
Press the Windows key, then go to Settings → System → Display. Scroll down and click Graphics settings. Click Browse and navigate to where God of War is installed (the folder that contains the game’s .exe). Select the game’s executable and add it. Then click Options for that entry and choose High Performance (your dedicated GPU if you have one). Click Save. That’s it—launch the game again. For many players this fixes the black-screen-then-close issue. Easy and fast! ✨
Solution 2: If It Still Closes — DXVK (Compatibility Layer)
If the game still opens and closes, some players fix it by adding DXVK (a free, open-source DirectX-to-Vulkan layer) to the game folder. Download a DXVK pack here: MediaFire. Or get it from the official GitHub repository (search for “DXVK” on GitHub). Extract the archive and copy the x64 DLLs from the release into your God of War installation folder (the same folder as the game’s .exe). Follow the official DXVK readme for exact steps. Restart the game and test. 🎮
That’s It! 🐱
Once it’s running, you can connect a controller or play with keyboard—it’s one of those games that looks and plays great on PC. If you still have issues, try verifying game files in Steam or updating your GPU drivers. I hope this worked for you! Leave a comment below, subscribe if you want more fixes, and have an awesome day. See you next time—MIAU! ✌😺
